Beef Australia 2024

Wrap Up

May 2024

It was wonderful to catch up with so many beef producers at Beef Australia in Rocky last month! Thanks to everyone who stopped by the stand, attended our BREEDPLAN sessions and came up for a chat while we were walking around the grounds and going through the cattle sheds.

Some of the highlights of our week included:

  • Attending the Rabobank Beef Industry Awards night where Steve Skinner received the prestigious RW Vincent award for his outstanding service to the Australian Cattle Breeding Industry. You can read more about Steve’s contributions to the beef industry throughout his career here.
  • Attending two Westpac Property Tours to Bundoola Meadows and Ten Mile Station. These tours were a fantastic opportunity to discuss the BREEDPLAN genetic evaluation with tour participants. ABRI Extension Services’ Paul Williams was also kept busy at Bundoola Meadows demonstrating ultrasound scanning for carcase attributes, ovarian scanning for fertility traits, and also giving a demonstration of the flight time equipment.
  • Providing six BREEDPLAN Q&A sessions at breed society marquees throughout the week. This was a good opportunity to discuss how BREEDPLAN information can be interpreted and utilised, alongside visual assessment, in animal selection decisions with a range of beef producers. This was the first time that the team had offered these at Beef Australia, and we look forward to offering a similar opportunity in 2027.
