BREEDPLAN Team Welcomes Katherine Smith
Jul 2026
BREEDPLAN is pleased to welcome Katherine Smith, who joined the team in June 2026. Katherine brings a strong background in agricultural science and a lifelong passion for livestock production. She holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland and has gained experience across plant, pasture, livestock and methane mitigation research. Her Honours thesis was recognised with the 2018 Australian Society of Animal Production Award for the Best Thesis in an Area of Relevance to Livestock, highlighting her commitment to advancing practical and innovative outcomes for the livestock industry.
Raised on a cattle property in Central West NSW, Katherine brings both academic expertise and hands-on industry experience to BREEDPLAN. Over the years, she has bred and trained Welsh ponies, worked as a station hand on commercial mixed farming enterprises, and contributed to methane mitigation research with the Ruminant Research Group at the University of New England through livestock nutritional strategies. With a farmer’s heart, a deep love of cattle, and a longstanding interest in animal breeding and rural landscapes, Katherine is a wonderful addition to the BREEDPLAN team, and we are delighted to have her on board.
