Three new selection indexes for New Zealand Herefords have been released in conjunction with the March 2021 Hereford BREEDLAN analysis. The new selection indexes are the:

• Hereford Prime Index
• Beef Heifer Index
• Dairy Beef Index.

The three new selection indexes will replace the previous New Zealand Hereford selection indexes and were developed by New Zealand Hereford in conjunction with staff at the Agricultural Business Research Institute (ABRI).  The Hereford Prime and Beef Heifer Indexes are for self replacing herds, with the Beef Heifer index specifically targeting use over heifers. The Dairy Beef Index is a terminal index for Hereford Bulls to be used over dairy cows.
